Eagles Training Camp: McNabb Thinks Brian Westbrook will Attend Camp

NFL, NFC East, Philadelphia Eagles, Donovan McNabb, Brian Westbrook, Breaking News

By Jameson Fleming: Second year tight end Brent Celek opened Eagles Training Camp as the first 'Bird on the field, but the action out on the turf that followed wasn't the talk of the day.

Quarterback Donovan McNabb stepped to the mic and addressed several off-field issues ranging from Brian Westbrook's contract, his own health, and the upcoming season.

McNabb says he expects Westbrook to attend camp.

"Westbrook will be here. We all have the confidence if he's here or not, he'll be the same guy we know."

But McNabb says he's just acting on a hunch.

"I haven't talked to him, I just feel like he'll be here."

McNabb asked the Eagles to fix the Pro-Bowl running back's contract situation once before, but the QB says things are different this time.

"That situation was different, we needed to sign him. I don't know what this situation entails. I cannot even comment on it."

McNabb says he's happy with the players around him including Westbrook. The signal caller is also happy with his health.

"I feel 28, my body feels 28, I want to thank my offensive line like Peyton did. I mean my body feels 28, I'm 31, I'm not going to lie about my age."

McNabb is now part of Coach Andy Reid's over 30 club which means every three days, he'll get one off. McNabb was asked would he still practice on his off days.

"I could, I could, would I say that, I don't think so. I'll take a rest day when I can."

McNabb says his groin problems of the past are just that- in his past.

"I haven't had any recurrences and its fine. I don't expect to have any recurrences."

McNabb says he shouldn't focus on past problems.

"I think anytime you begin to dwell on the past that means your future is not bright. Every year I come to try to challenge myself to do something different. I look at it as if this is my job and I'm not going anywhere else- so get used to it."

But when looking to the past, McNabb says his history with Coach Reid has been a successful one.

"We have been here for 10 years, not too many people have been together coach-quarterback that long that I can remember. For both of us we have had more success than failure and want to get better each year."

McNabb says that could be easy if everyone does their job.

"If everyone focused on doing what they need to do individually, everything comes together. When you're out here, things seem to click well, guys are flying around and we need to transfer that out onto the game field."

McNabb says if they get 60 minutes of that kind of effort, they will be alright.

Jameson Fleming is an intern at ESPN Radio 1230 and 1320 and will be at Training Camp every day filing radio reports and publishing his transcripts on Bleacher Report.

Brett Favre to the Redskins? Scary

NFL, NFC East, Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Redskins, Green Bay Packers, Brett Favre, Editorial
We all know about the messy affair with Brett Favre's recent decision to come back to the NFL, much to the Packers' and Aaron Rodger's dismay. Yes, after retiring on April 11, 2008, following the season in which he took the final step in an illustrious Hall of Fame career, breaking numerous records and mesmerizing admirers all over the nation, the legendary Brett Favre was coming back. Which was fine with me. I really couldn't care less.

Not long afterwards, things started getting ugly, as the Packers were only willing to reinstate him on their team as a backup. Then came the letter, asking the Packers to formally release him (he is still under contract through 2011).

I was beginning to get worried.

News was coming in that both the Bears and the Redskins, both dangerous teams lacking a solid quarterback, were interested in him.

The Redskins?? They didn't have a solid QB in over a decade! True, they were set in most other areas, and could be a great team if they had a good quarterback, but....

Over the last few seasons, the NFC East had slowly been rising in the ranks, as the Eagles were caught in the midst of the T.O. scandal. Next season, Dallas was signing all the free agents, getting that dream team together. The Giants had a good quarterback and a formidable defense. They were Super Bowl caliber, but nobody knew it then.

The Eagles and the Redskins both went no where and finished as the bottom two teams in the East in 2007. But the Redskins were bound by inspiration from the Sean Taylor killing, got their act together, and made the wild card.

It was a surprise, especially considering that they went 5-11 in 2006.

However after finishing as a legitimate threat in 2007, they could capitalize on a 9-7 year and become the third team in the East which has steadily bypassed the Eagles over the years.

And they could do that with one simple move: Acquiring Brett Favre.

As an Eagles fan, that scares the stuffing out of me.

Should the Eagles Target a #1 Receiver Next Offseason?

NFL, AFC East, AFC North, NFC East, New England Patriots, Cincinnati Bengals, Philadelphia Eagles, Randy Moss, Chad Johnson

By Isaac Barrow: The Philadelphia Eagles closest thing to a Pro Bowl receiver in the last few years was Terrell Owens, but we all know the end to that story. Owens and Donovan McNabb didn't get along; it was a mess.

In a world where nowadays, the wide receiver has an attitude problem and is very egotistical (Randy Moss, Chad Johnson, Jerry Porter) teams are forced to unload piles of money on people who touch the ball maybe six or seven times a game.

Randy Moss, probably the best receiver in the league, earned over fifteen million last year. Chad Johnson also earned the big bucks.

It seems since 2005, the Eagles never wanted to go after that big name, top dollar receiver because of the Owens saga.

However, sources did say that the Eagles tried to get both Chad Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald, a wasted effort after both ended up heading back to their 2007 teams.

Right now, Eagles fans are hoping a Johnson or Fitzgerald caliber wide receiver lands in Philly sometime in the near future, and if that happens, they know there is hope ahead.
